When should I consider online tuition?

Online tuition has received a huge amount of press over the last few months due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many schools have tried to offer some sort of online service during the lockdown with varying degrees of success.

We offer both home and online tuition for all academic levels at Bespoke Tuition IOM, so you may be wondering when to consider online tuition.

So, what exactly is online tuition?

It is one to one tuition between a tutor and a student using an online platform. Both will need a PC, laptop or tablet. When the tutor and student are connected the tuition is carried out in a similar way to home tutoring.

The tuition can be supplemented by the use of an online ‘whiteboard’ where both the tutor and student can write down questions and answers online by hand. Certain online platforms allow the lesson to be recorded and available for playback at a later date if the student wishes to go over the material again.

There are 2 main factors which may determine the use of online tuition.

Firstly, the availability of a tutor in the Isle of Man. There is only a limited pool of tutors available on the island, especially if the subject is not that common. However, at Bespoke Tuition IOM we are able to source tutors for most subjects and academic levels in the UK, including Manx undergraduates at top UK universities.

Secondly, it is down to the personal choice of the student. Some students have no problem learning online whereas others would prefer to sit with a tutor in their home. Occasionally the tutors and students find it harder to build a rapport when everything is online.

At Bespoke Tuition IOM we can offer a hybrid approach. Home tuition can be supplemented with online tuition. For instance, online can be useful for a quick or short notice extra lesson – especially helpful near exam time. Also, we can offer a combination of approaches to give maximum flexibility over lesson timing and tutor choice.
